The Luxury British phone maker Vertu collapses after a rescue attempt by an exiled Turkish tycoon fails

  • Vertu has gone bankrupt after amassing debts of £128 million ($165 million) 
  • The company was known for its jewel-encrusted Android smartphones 
  • The jobs of 178 UK workers at the firm will be lost after a failed rescue attempt
  • At the end of June the company applied to be put into administration by its owner, Turkish tycoon Hakan Uzan, who bought the firm in March
